ICE Kills Unarmed Woman; Department of Homeland Security Blames Her for "Domestic Terrorism"
MAGA doublespeak attempts to flip the script
It is 30 degrees out in Minneapolis at midnight tonight. But that’s not stopping hundreds of Minnesotans from bundling up and gathering together, chanting “ICE OUT NOW.”
They are cold. But they are peaceful. And they are grieving.
Other cities are joining in solidarity with their own vigils and demonstrations.
This morning, an ICE employee was filmed shooting an unarmed woman in the face and head at least twice. He shot her at point-blank range on camera in broad daylight as she was attempting to leave a public street.
Government employees in tactical gear prevented even a doctor in the crowd from helping.
“I’m a physician!” a man cried out with his hands in the air after asking if he could at least check for a pulse.
“I don’t care! Back up!” he is ordered by an armed man.
The ICE employee who fired multiple shots was filmed from numerous angles by bystanders with cell phones walking away uninjured and adjusting his balaclava to cover more of his face.
The 37-year-old woman died today at the Hennepin County Medical Center. Her mother identified her as Renee Nicole Good, a wife and mother of a six-year-old child. The child, whose father died in 2023, is an orphan now.
Within just hours of the fatal shooting, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem dutifully continued MAGA’s Orwellian doublespeak in a transparent attempt to flip the script on who the actual perpetrator is.
During today’s press conference, Noem stated her intention was to “reiterate the facts” of what she called a “preventable tragedy.”
“At 10:25 a.m. central time, immigration and customs enforcement were carrying out lawful operations here in Minneapolis,” Noem began. The actual legality of DHS’s “lawful operations” continues to be scrutinized by lawyers, legal scholars, academics, legislators, and historians.
“Law enforcement were attempting to push out this vehicle, [Noem claimed Good’s vehicle was stuck in the snow] and when a mob of agitators that were harassing them all day began blocking them in, shouting at them, and impeding law enforcement operations. Ice officers and agents approached the vehicle of the individual in question, who was blocking the officers in with her vehicle, and she had been stalking and impeding their work all throughout the day.
ICE agents repeatedly ordered her to get out of the car and to stop obstructing law enforcement, but she refused to obey their commands. She then proceeded to weaponize her vehicle, and she attempted to run a law enforcement officer over. This appears as an attempt to kill or to cause bodily harm to agents: an act of domestic terrorism. The ice officer, fearing for his life, and the other officers around him, and the safety of the public fired defensive shots. He used his training to save his own life and that of his colleagues.”
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin predictably reiterated the claim that the man fired in self-defense, "fearing for his life” but Representative Ilhan Omar called the the murder victim a “legal observer” and the shooting “state violence.”
In an emotional press conference, Governor Tim Walz implored Portlanders and people from other American cities struggling against ICE and CBP violence and brutality to “stand with Minnesotans.”
Minneapolis Mayor Mayor Jacob Frey condemned the deployment of some 2,000 anti-immigration personnel. He spoke passionately about community and responding with our better angels. But he spoke in no uncertain terms when he told ICE with slow anguish: “Get the fuck out of Minneapolis.”
Mayor Frey voiced the despair and fury not of just Minnesotans, but good people everywhere, horrified by the unjustified infiltration of American cities and militarized assault on people throughout the country.
“We do not want you here. Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety and you’re doing exactly the opposite. People are being hurt. Families are being ripped apart. Long-term Minneapolis residents that have contributed so greatly to our city, to our culture, to our economy, are being terrorized, and now somebody is dead,” Mayor Frey continued. “That’s on you. And it’s also on you to leave.”
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson shared a video message in support of Minnesotans and everyone suffering under this administration. And he reminded us that Renee Nicole Good was not ICE’s first murder victim.
ICE employees also fatally shot 38-year-old Silverio Villegas González on the morning of September 12th, 2025 after he dropped one of his children off at daycare in suburban Chicago. He is one of at least five people killed by ICE since the “immigration crackdown” across the U.S.
“ICE has committed an unspeakable act of violence today, shooting and killing a woman in South Minneapolis. These masked agents are out of control and creating real chaos in our state.” Speaking with grace and compassion, Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan said, "ICE must leave Minnesota immediately – before more people are hurt. In the face of their violence, let us remain peaceful, calm, and united. Minnesotans will not allow Trump and his thugs to turn our communities into war zones.”
